 Well
the results are in and although we didn't pick up the
big prize for most wings eaten in 30 minutes, Tailgate
Russ and friends did walk away with the prestigious "Best
Entourage" award at Wing Bowl X. Our theme of "Tailgating
in New Orleans on Super Bowl Sunday" came across well
with a reconstructed tailgate of a pick-up truck with
TG Russ in the tailgate with a keg, grill and couple of
other tailgaters. Everyone in the group had Mardi Gras
beads on and Eagles jerseys which the judges picked up
on. There was a small write up In the Philadelphia Inquirer
on Tuesday, 1/29 in section C - the Magazine section,
page 1, lower right hand corner. Now I'll be working 610
WIP for a bye for next year! Although it wasn't a vacation
to Aruba for a week like El Wingador gets for defending
his Wing Bowl title or a week in Cancun like the Best
Wingette gets, I did get a trophy and Movado watch, which
I know the guys in the entourage each want to wear for
a month.
The day started with 32 guys heading down in two party bus's at 4:15am. The beers and bloody mary's were flowing. I could hear someone say I've been up this late drinking but never this early! After the entourage procession everyone
headed up to a luxury suite complete with breakfast and open bar. One suite was not enough for these guys as they took over the mayors box (can't understand why he didn't make it down for Wing Bowl) and a law firms box on the other
side. The guys up there could be seen with their Tailgate Russ shirts on and could be heard as well. After the festivities it was off on a Pub Crawl to Finnegans Wake, Fado, Black Sheep, Irish Pub, Ugly Moose and finally back to
headquarters the Bridgeport Rib House. I think everyone was home safe and sound by 7:00pm. I mention all this stuff, because we'll be doing it again next year and hopefully more folks will join us.
